Sale conditions of wood are specified by the regulation of Director – General of the Sate Forests.
Within the framework of the individual sale , the foresters try to meet the fast growing demand, because more and more people use wood in order to heat their houses. Contrary to general opinion, these are not only village people, even though they prevail among recipients. The growth of firewood demand is the result of occurrence of new housing estates built in the suburbs of large agglomerations, where houses are usually equipped in fireplace heating installations.
Firewood is not only the most ecological heat source, but also is much more attractive in respect of relation of price and electric efficiency, rather than cola, oil, gas or electric power.
In recent years, the Sate Forests increased the sale of firewood of one third – up to over 4 million cubic meters annually. Some of customers choose already prepared and cut into pieces wood, the others very willingly obtain it by themselves after arranging all details and fulfilling particular safety conditions, and after paying the fee; that concerns mainly so called "thinnings". Such a raw material is very cheap, that is why many people from village areas profit from such possibility.

Obecnie posiadanym certyfikatem przez RDLP Toruń jest certyfikat PEFC
Zasady gospodarki leśnej prowadzonej na terenie RDLP w Toruniu są zgodne z zasadami i kryteriami PEFC.
Certyfikacja gospodarki leśnej to procedura, w wyniku której niezależna organizacja potwierdza prowadzenie tej gospodarki zgodnie z obowiązującymi przepisami i normami.
Gospodarka leśna prowadzona przez nadleśnictwa RDLP w Toruniu poddawana jest certyfikacji. Obecnie RDLP w Toruniu posiada przyznany certyfikat:
- certyfikat PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification),
Dokument ten potwierdza, że gospodarka leśna w lasach Kujaw i Pomorza prowadzona jest zgodnie z obowiązującymi przepisami z jednoczesnym przestrzeganiem zasad: zrównoważonego rozwoju, zachowania trwałości lasów i ochrony przyrody.
PEFC jest organizacją pozarządową, której cel to wspieranie zasad zrównoważonej gospodarki leśnej. Pełni ona funkcję międzynarodowej organizacji, która ocenia i uznaje krajowe systemy certyfikacji leśnej. Te krajowe systemy opierają się na międzyrządowych zasadach promowania zrównoważonej gospodarki leśnej. By móc sprzedawać produkty oznaczone jako certyfikowane przez PEFC, zarządzający lasami muszą uzyskać certyfikat gospodarki leśnej, zaś przedsiębiorstwa biorące udział w procesie przetwarzania i handlu drewnem muszą uzyskać certyfikat kontroli pochodzenia produktu CoC. System certyfikacji PEFC funkcjonuje od 1999 r. i jest obecnie najbardziej rozpowszechnionym systemem certyfikacyjnym lasów w Europie. Europejskie kraje o największej powierzchni lasów certyfikowanych w systemie PEFC to: Finlandia (21,1 mln. ha), Szwecja (9,4 mln. ha), Norwegia (9,1 mln. ha), Niemcy (7,4 mln. ha) i Polska (7,3 mln. ha).
